SEO nightmare?

Google has changed its search algorithm to minimize the effects of Google bombs. My question, as a professional web developer, is will this algorithm change any of the ways Google indexing already works? Will it impact some legitimate links as well? One thing I’ve heard clients ask over and over is how they can get their page to the top of a Google search. Hopefully this doesn’t trash anything.
