Well, I feel stupid.
And now for a sort of revelation to non-locals, which may be more of a revelation to people who live here and the ultimate revelation to me. A local television station, WFIE 14, recently blew everyone away in the weather department by debuting a second Doppler weather radar in Owensboro. (Owensboro is in the Evansville, Indiana television market, so just about every TV station we can receive here is in Evansville. You can probably infer the fact most of their radar sites are in Evansville.) A competing station didn’t hesitate to air clips denouncing the move, saying “why have two radar sites when you can have one really good one?” It’s been rather interesting to watch.
I wondered for a long time where you could possibly put a weather radar site in Owensboro without being noticed, because I certainly didn’t. Today it clicked. Owensboro Medical Health System is a big sponsor of the WFIE weather center. So I happen to look out my front door and I notice the radar dome sitting on top of the hospital. Remember the “not being noticed” part? Yeah, this thing is about three or four hundred yards away from my front door.
I’m gonna… just … go to bed now. Maybe I won’t feel so stupid tomorrow.
